Description
Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A captivating gilt brass figure of Jambhala, also known as Kubera, the Hindu God of Wealth, shown striding in pratyalidhasana - the warrior pose - as he tramples the prostrate figure of a wealthy man, all atop a lotus pedestal. Nude, pot-bellied Jambhala displays the body of a sexually-aroused dwarf with 3 bulging eyes, flowing, untamed hair, and jewelry formed from serpents. His left hand holds the head of a mongoose that expels jewels from its mouth, while his right carries a bowl of coins at his chest. The underside of the base is sealed and incised with a lotus flower design. Size: 3.6" L x 7.6" W x 8.5" H (9.1 cm x 19.3 cm x 21.6 cm)
