Description
This print of Ipswich, the Watering-place behind the Barracks is Plate I from the series The First Steeple-Chase on Record by Henry Alken, engraved by J Harris and published by R Ackermann, London 1839.9.One of a set of four beautiful aquatints depicting the first steeple-chase race on record. These four plates were published in A Monthly Chronicle of The Turf, The Chase, and Rural Sports in all their varieties, a nineteenth century monthly publication, which reported on the present day equestrian sporting life. Drawn by Henry Alken, a leading British sporting artist. Size: 10.5in x 14.5in (26.7cm x 36.8cm) – mounted but unframed.
