Item Details
Description
This beautiful print of the Meadia was drawn by Georg Dionysius Ehret for Plantae selectae quarum imagines ad exemplaria naturalia Londini, in hortis curiosorum nutrita by Christoph Jakob Trew from the first edition published in Nuremberg, 1750. Christoph Jakob Trew was a German botanist and a member of the Royal Society of London, the Berlin Academy, and the Florentine Botanical Society. Georg Dionysius Ehret was one of the most influential European botanical artists of all time. Trew was Ehret’s greatest patron and commissioned this fabulous work which was both superbly beautiful and the height of scientific knowledge at the time. The prints were engraved by Johann Jacob Haid and are on light creamy watermarked chain linked paper in excellent condition. The original hand-colouring is very subtle, with beautiful contrasts in the leaves and flowers and the first word of each title is highlighted in gold. Each print measures approximately 21 ¼ in x 15 in (54cm x 37cm)
Condition
The print is in excellent condition - please inspect the image carefully as it is very accurate.
