Andy Warhol 2x Signed Presentation Copy, "Andy Warhol's Exposures," With Original Heart Drawing!
Signed 1st Ed.

A first printing copy of Andy Warhol and Bob Colacello, "Andy Warhol's Exposures" (New York: Andy Warhol Books / Grosset & Dunlap, 1979), twice signed by pop artist Andy Warhol (1928-1987), and also featuring an original heart drawing. The first signature is found along the right edge of the dust jacket, as "Andy," and measures an incredible 8" x 2.125" alone. The "n" of Andy's signature is slightly smeared. The second signature, inscription, and original heart drawing are found on the half title page; Warhol has written "to alice / love / Andy" above a winsome heart measuring 4.5" x 4." Stated first printing on the copyright page. The hardcover book has black cloth binding and a silver-embossed spine, with its original dust jacket with an unclipped retail price of $25.00 located on the left flap. Expected wear including gentle toning to the endpapers, and an ink ghost impression of Warhol's presentation signature facing the half title page and on the reverse. The dust jacket shows minor chips to the upper edge of the front cover and spine headband. Else near fine. 9.5" x 11.5" x 1." 255pp.

The book features dozens of Warhol black and white photographs of international celebrities from the late 1970s. Warhol's candid photos of socialites, royalty, politicians, actors, musicians, dancers, writers, intellectuals, social influencers, and athletes "pull back the curtain" on the zany world of the rich, beautiful, and famous. Subjects are conveniently searchable using the 4pp alphabetized index found at front and back. Warhol and Colacello's companion essays are often riotously funny and always irreverent.

Andy Warhol wrote in his diary that he attended one of Alice Mason's monthly black-tie dinner parties in her Upper East side apartment on December 19, 1979 (as published in Pat Hackett, "The Andy Warhol Diaries" (New York: Warner Books, 1989). Warhol wrote: "Bob? really wanted to go to the Alice Mason dinner, so he picked me up and we walked to 72nd and Lexington. I was next to Norris Church Mailer?" It is a strong possibility, then, that Warhol signed and dedicated this book to Alice Mason on that very evening.

Warhol revolutionized American art with his controversial artistic commentary on commercialism and consumerism. One of his most iconic images treated the Campbell's Soup can, a ubiquitous consumer product of postwar America. Warhol used the Campbell's Soup can series and other series to advocate that art should be produced in mass quantities and consumed in volume.
