On p. 1 is a rare engraved map of the Oregon Territory: “A Correct Map of the Disputed Territory in Oregon.” The Oregon Territory was disputed between the United States and Great Britain until a treaty was signed in 1846, finally establishing a border between Oregon and Canada. This had the effect of giving the United States territory a foothold on the Pacific Ocean.
