The bottom panel of a woman’s shawl from Kohistan in the North West Frontier Region of Pakistan. Crafted from black cotton, it features polychrome floss silk embroidery executed in the counted stitch technique. The decorative motifs include abstracted ram's horns, snowflakes, and flowers. Typically, the rest of the large rectangular shawl and the dress it covers are similarly adorned with embroidery. In more recent cases, they may also be embellished with key chains, buttons, zippers, and other utilitarian items repurposed for decorative purposes. Provenance: Ex Yosi Barzilai collection.
