This original hand-coloured lithograph arranged and illustrated by H.N. Humphreys, with descriptions by J. O. Westwood, is from British Butterflies and their Transformations, published in London 1841.The print illustrates the following butterfly species, including their caterpillar and chrysalis, and featured plants:1. Viola odorata (the Sweet Violet). Henry Noel Humphreys (1810–1879), was a British illustrator, naturalist, entomologist, and numismatist. Humphreys, who studied medieval manuscripts in Italy as a young man, became an accomplished scholar in numerous subjects. Size: 8.25in x 10.5in (21cm x 26.6cm).
