Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. A stunning necklace comprised of 60 ancient beads made from gold (59.84% to 69.74%, equivalent to 14K+), carnelian, and glass. The gold beads are formed from thin sheets into a variety of shapes; spirals, spheres, discs, and lozenge. The gold and carnelian beads are symmetrically strung on both sides for a pleasing and balanced design. The lower portion of the strand, above the pendant area, features four blue and two black glass beads, and a large hollow gold sphere. The pendant bead is a flat disc with a raised spiral motif. This elegant necklace is wearable and strung in modern times on a black fiber cord.
