Description

A Japanese Hirado blue and white porcelain "Crane and Pines" vase, decorated by Imamura Rokuro, Meiji period 日本平戶“松鶴”青花瓷瓶今村六帛筆明治

Of tapered vasiform, with a pair of beast-head handles at the shoulder, the body painted with flying cranes and twisted pine boughs, lappet border at the lip; wave border at the foot, underside inscribed with maker's and painter's marks, as well as Hirado marks.
H: 14 in.

Literature

For two other works decorated by Imamura Rokuro, see Louis Lawrence, “Hirado, Prince of Porcelains”, Chicago, 1997, frontispiece and p. 159, nos. 76, 77, the author suggests the artist was one of Hirado's finest painters.
