Prima edizione francese di questa importante opera sulla scoperta della città Tedmor di Palmira. Wood, accompagnato da James Dawkins, John Bouverie e dall'artista e architetto italiano Giovanni Battista Borra, viaggiò a lungo nel Levante, raggiungendo nel 1751 i siti relativamente poco visitati di Palmira e Balbec. Le rovine di Palmira apparvero per prime; il lavoro e i costi di pubblicazione ritardarono la pubblicazione delle rovine di Balbec fino al 1757. Dawkins produsse il resoconto ufficiale del tour, mentre Wood si occupò della topografia e delle iscrizioni. First French edition of this important work on the discovery of the Tedmor city of Palmyra.Wood, accompanied by James Dawkins, John Bouverie, and the Italian artist and architect Giovanni Battista Borra, traveled extensively in the Levant, reaching the relatively little-visited sites of Palmyra and Balbec in 1751. The ruins of Palmyra appeared first; the work and publication costs delayed publication of the Balbec ruins until 1757. Dawkins produced the official account of the tour, while Wood handled the topography and inscriptions.
