Aztec and Zapotec weavers use natural organic dyes that are available around their tribal land thus depicting their surroundings with materials of the very land they depict.
This alluring and almost mysterious tapestry is arresting from any angle. Depicting Coatlicue one of the most important Aztec goddesses that played a number of roles in the Aztec pantheon. Famous for wearing a skirt of snakes she was the mother of Huitzilopochtli the Aztec god of war and served as an agricultural fertility deity. She also prophesied the downfall of the Aztec Empire.
