This large and beautiful piece was had carved from a single piece of Tiger's Eye semi-precious gemstone adorned with Sterling Silver applications carrying oval gemstone cabochons. Very good vintage condition with some natural cracks that don't destabilize the piece. This great piece measures approx. 3 1/8" long x 3/4" wide and weighs ca. 31 grams. The Mano Figa is the gesture of the thumb protruded between the pointer finger and middle finger. This symbol has been used as a good luck charm throughout history in many cultures, originally dating back to the Etruscans in the 6th Century BCE. In Ancient Rome Mano meaning hand, and Fico or Figa meaning fig, represented “fig hand” or a slang term for female genitalia. The symbol has also been known to imitate heterosexual intercourse. In some cultures, the Mano Figa is the gesture equivalent to giving the middle finger. Some wear the Mano Figa as a good luck charm and an incantation to the Goddess as a call for fertility and virility. Worn as an amulet, the Mano Figa is used for protection against the evil eye and to ward off spirits of the dead. The obscenity of the gesture is said to distract Satan from his conquest for your soul.
