**First Time At Auction**
Egypt, Hellenistic period, Alexandria, ca. 3rd century BCE. Molded from buff brown terracotta, the evocative head of a male Nubian bearing an intense expression with wide eyes, raised brows, and mouth slightly open as though in astonishment. A crested cap or helmet crowns forehead, which displays a deep wrinkle, possibly intended to represent ritual scarification which is still practiced among some Nubians. Heads like this were produced in late Hellenistic times, especially in Alexandria, Egypt. Size: 1.9" L x 1.5" W x 2.2" H (4.8 cm x 3.8 cm x 5.6 cm); 3.6" H (9.1 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Madeleine and Jean-Jacques Keller collection, Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire until 1980s, and then to Rheinfelden, Germany

Condition
Fragment of a larger piece. Professionally repaired with restoration over break lines and some light surface wear as shown. Otherwise, nice presentation with good detail and earthen encrustations in areas. Can slide up stand but cannot be taken off.
