circa 1878-1879, by R & J Beck, London/Philadelphia, serial number 10434, comprised of wood, brass, and glass magnifiers, with a mirror and oil lamp, mounted to a wooden base.

A model of this microscope was used by Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. (Boston, 1809-1894) for demonstrations in the classroom. It currently resides in the Harvard University, Ernst-Lewis Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments.

Condition
No longer retaining hurricane glass for oil lamp or a magnifier that would be attached at the end post, light surface wear, overall very good condition.
