Description
▲ Freddie Yauner (b.1982) 'Signs of Life' - a reactive digital fire exit sign, 2009 interactive Flash animation, LCD screen, computer, motion sensor and powder-coated steel casing 46cm wide 12cm deep 31cm high Yauner's animated pictographic exit sign takes an everyday object that we see frequently, but rarely pay attention to, and brings it to life. Controlled by a motion sensor, when movement is detected, the work functions as a standard emergency exit sign - the figure remains in a static action pose, denoting what to do in case of emergency. When there is no motion nearby, the figure comes to life and takes a break from his duties, watching TV and taking a nap. Provenance: Purchased by the present owner from Gallery Fumi, London, in 2009. Condition Report: The work takes some time to load and and is a little noisy at first (consistent with the the age of the technology) but once up and running appears to function as intended.
