Large dated and signed pastel drawing showing a gentleman in bowler hat driving a light, four-wheeled open carriage behind two black horses. Beneath is the caption: "NORMAN B. 2.06 2y and ORO. 2.10" Presumably information on the horses. The man in the carriage bears a striking resemblance to August Belmont Jr., financier and thoroughbred race horse owner and breeder. Signed lower right: Dan W. Smith 1906. Verso with what appears to be an early notation: Mr. Wm Kelly / 317 West 51st St. / New York. Framed under glass. Drawing in good condition. Frame with surface wear, paint loss. Frame, approx. 26" x 37". Sight, approx. 22" x 33". Provenance: the estate of John Long, highly regarded Virginia antiques dealer and collector.
