Finely executed pastel portraits on paper of a youngish husband and wife, early 19th C. No signature found. Partial tag on the back of one frame has an old handwritten label what appears to read "Cranford", possibly a clue to the identity of the sitter, the artist, or perhaps just the person who had them framed. Good condition, with some minor migration of pastel dust. Frames, approx. 13 1/2" x 16 1/4". Sight, approx. 14 3/4" x 11 3/4". Provenance: the estate of John Long, highly regarded Virginia antiques dealer and collector.
