Presented here for your consideration is a Maria and Popovi Da San Ildefonso Pot. Included with the pot is the original sales receipt from Popovi Da Studio of Indian Arts. Circa 1919-1920, Maria and her husband Julian Martinez created the "black-on-black" style of pottery, a unique process allowing matte designs to be painted on a stone polished surface and the entire piece to be fired black. Popovi Da was Maria's son, born Tony Martinez he changed his name to Popovi Da (Red Fox). Maria and Popovi Da worked together from 1956 to 1970 and he focused on the design work. Many feel that the finest Maria pots were produced during her collaboration with Popovi Da. This pot is decorated with Popovi Da's classic Avanyu design circling the pot just below the rim. This is a beautiful, very collectible little pot representing the work of two famous, innovative potters and designers! Make it yours today!
