Description: [10], 156 pp. With numerous woodcut illustrations. (12mo) 14.5x8.5 cm (5¾x3¼"), old calf, later endpapers.Rare unrecorded edition of Aesop's Fables, the present copy apparently being the only known example. We found no copies of this 1757 Hitch and Hawes edition listed in OCLC, and the only auction record we could find was for this copy. The title page calls it "The Twelfth Edition, with Large Additions," perhaps harkening to several earlier editions in which Hitch was involved as a secondary publisher, all of which seem scarce. This copy lacks leaf A1, which would precede the title page, so possibly missing an initial advertisement or frontispiece.

Condition

Portions of spine strip rubbed off, joints cracked; bottom of final leaf trimmed close affecting final line and with a short tear to upper inner corner, some soiling and other internal wear; overall very good.
