Plot: The film is about the life of the British poet Stevie Smith (Glenda Jackson) and centers on Smith's relationship with her aunt (Mona Washbourne) with whom she lived for many years in a house in Palmers Green, London as well as romantic relationships of the past, and the fame she received late in her life. While her body may be committed to drudgery, Stevie's mind is constantly trying to break free, which causes her to rail against religion and middle-class values, and prevents her from finding happiness with a man interested in her.
