Description
China, 1875-1908. Finely potted with deep rounded sides rising at an angle to a broad everted rim. The bowl and cover each decorated to the exterior with the characters 'wanshou wujiang' ('may you live forever') in four roundels above a yellow ground with crashing waves, swirling clouds, and ribbon-tied wan symbols. The interior of the bowl painted in gilt, iron-red, and yellow with five bats encircling a Shou character below a band of key-fret.
The cover mounted with an old, finely engraved European silver rim. The top of the cover and the base with an iron-red six-character mark da Qing Guangxu nianzhi and of the period.
Provenance: From a private collection in Brussels, Belgium.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, few light surface scratches, and firing flaws including pitting. The European silver fittings are later additions, the condition below these fittings is unknown.
