Sponsored by the Spartakiad Organizational Committee, Moscow, 1928. 99.4 x 71.6 cm. (39 5/8" x 28 3/8"). An official poster of a major sports event envisioned by its organizers as the Socialist answer to the bourgeois Olympics. Spartakiad appears to be Vlasovs best-known work in the poster genre. We do not have much information about the artist. A short online biography states that Vlasov was born in St. Petersburg, serving in the Army through WWI and the Civil War. In 1921, maybe 1922, his commanders, noting the young soldiers artistic skills, sent him to Moscow to study art at VKhUTEMAS.
