On the 4th page translated from French reads: "Have read, by order of Monseigneur the Chancellor, the present Manuf. Crit; I found nothing there which should prevent its imprint; & I believed that the public would be pleased to see the genius and character of Oriental Tales. Done in Paris this December 27th, 1703. Signed, Fontenelle.

Raised bands on spines with boards of character in-between Significant wear on spine and between spines and front and back board Pen markings on punctuation throughout the volumes Wear commensurate with age Vol 1. Gouge on front cover and some water damage on top right corner of roughly 20 pages
