Description
Florence Resnikoff, a gem-set, 14k gold and reticulated silver collar necklace, 1999 of modernist design, featuring bezel-set round malachite, moonstone and carnelian cabochons, with a reticulated silver plaque; signed FR; 29.01 dwt; the 14k gold necklace length: 15 1/2 inAccompanied by 1999 original invoice. Florence Resnikoff (1920-2013) was a well known San Francisco artist, admired for her broad knowledge of metal working techniques, producing sculpture and jewelry in a wide range of forms, color and surface. Born in Texas, reared in Chicago, she moved to the Bay Area in the 1950's and was strongly influenced by the SF Metal Arts Guild membership and with Margaret De Patta in particular. She taught at CCAC, and headed the Metal Arts program for over a decade. Resnikoff's lifelong interest in color has led her to employ enamel, patinas, cast resins, and electroformed metals in her search for an expanded palette. She was known for her unusual combinations of metals and gemstones.Resnikoff's work can be found in the permanent collections of the City and County of San Francisco, the Oakland Museum of California, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the Museum of Arts and Design in New York.Tecoah and Tom Bruce moved to the West Coast in 1957, and eventually moved to San Francisco, then Berkeley where her three children were raised. Her passion for the arts led her to graduate from CCA with a Bachelor's and a Master's degree-both with high distinction.Tecoah became a great champion for CCA, holding many leadership roles at the college: president of the Alumni Association including the founding chair of the Contemporary Art and Salon Circle donor groups and the Chair of the Board of Trustees from 1992 to 1998 (she was later awarded the distinction of Trustee emeritus). She was a visionary in the campaign to purchase and construct the San Francisco campus. Tecoah also had deep engagements with many other art organizations, including the Berkeley Art Museum (BAMPFA). She and her husband Tom were members of the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University from 1983-2014. Additionally, she had a highly regarded and successful art consulting business for many decades that she started with close friend and colleague Theodore Cohen, one of the Bay Area's most respected and beloved exhibition designers.
