Description
Circa 5th-3rd century B.C., attributed to the Stuttgart group. A ceramic red figure ware oinochoe with pedestal base, mastoid body, funicular neck and trefoil spout. The handle a broad ribbed strap; the body depicting a reclining female in a girdled chiton with her hair in a beribboned kekryphalos, supporting a rectangular casket in her right hand, patterned situla in her left, surrounded by rosettes, dotted sprays and a patterned scarf in the field. With palmette to the rear; there is a restricted use of white and ochre points; ovolo motifs in ochre to the neck with white slash motifs above. At the junction of the handle and spout, a human mask with painted palmette is depicted above. Featured in A.D. Trendell & A.
