He is best known for his paintings of women and contemporary events. Nagai's wooden prints were produced from woodcutting-felled blocks, and he used a variety of colors in his work. He is most famous for his series titled "Meisei no Yonezawa," which depicted the process of cleaning and drying fish in the cold water of Japan.
