Description
1862 Confederate States $1000 Civil War Loan Bond. In 1861, seeking funds for their war effort, the newly formed Confederacy began offering bonds to its citizens. The bonds seemed a good investment to the constituents of the confederacy and proved popular, with many varieties being issued. However, with the confederacy's defeat in 1865, none of the bond buyers would ever recieve their promised return. These bonds that once became worthless (and were frequently disposed of) are now rare and valuable paper artifacts of the Civil War. This particular loan bond measures 13.5 x 9 inches, and was issued for $1000 at 8% interest.
