Superior May 24, 1760 "Peyton Randolph" Signed Virginia Ex: Stack's John J Ford Jr Collection Part VIII January 2005
May 24, 1760, Current Money of Virginia, Signed "Peyton Randolph," Two Shillings and Six Pence or 30 Pence, PCGS graded Fine-12.
Fr. VA-42. An important rare French & Indian War Period Current Money of Virginia note, Signed by "Peyton Randolph," later President of the Continental Congress and much more as a prominent figure in Virginia and American history. Uniface measuring 70mm x 62mm, tightly margined on three sides, paper evenly toned, printed ink somewhat faded. Its holder states details, multiple repairs, design redrawn, backed. It has conservation for its preservation. The Ford writer (Bruce Hagen) noted this piece was from "Another rare and early series. These saw hard circulation and few examples exist in any grade." We agree with Bruce and collectors should take note that these tend to exist as seen here, worse, or not at all. Worthy of added consideration being signed by Peyton Randolph.
Pedigree: From Stack's sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part VIII, January, 2005, Lot 1656.
