Steve (Stephen) Balkin (American, 1938-2023), "The Dave Clark Five, 5 by 5", 1967, album cover art proof, black and white photographic collage depicting the members of The Dave Clark Five band half frontal and half profile, with the lead facing forward, made for Epic Records, album LN 24236, wear consistent with age, image size: 14 1/4" h. x 13" w. [NOTE: Stephen Balkin, graduate of Pratt Institute (61-64), was in his early career a photo-journalist in New York City, often photographing private moments and public events with well known friends such as Andy Warhol, Louise Nevelson, Robert Indiana, Jasper Johns, Robert Lichtenstein, Peter Beard, Robert Morris, Al Hansen, Nam June Paik, Edward Albee, and others, many part of the “Factory (Fluxus)” World Theater group. In the 1960’s-70’s Balkin worked on design and photography projects for Harper’s Bazaar, New York Magazine, Time-Life, General Dynamics, ITT, Lincoln Center, etc. along with exhibiting his own work at the Wadsworth Atheneum, and New York galleries including Betty Parsons, Byron, Third Rail, Hinkley and Brohl, The Contemporaries, etc. Balkin continued to collaborate and produce original artworks until his death in 2023.] [PROVENANCE: From the Estate of Steve Balkin.]
