Description
A hand-painted tin sign with gold lettering and polychromed image of overflowing mug of beer on black Smaltz background. The sign has a one-eighth round curve and is backed by a wood frame for mounting on a corner post. Surrounding the beer mug are green vines along with dried hops and barley, just below the mug we see the artist's signature 'Goetz'; a wonderful and scarce early saloon sign in remarkable original state; J. F. Weissner was one of the most important beer makers of late-nineteenth century Baltimore; their wonderful brewery building still stands in Baltimore and is now known as the American Brewing Co. Building and is an architectural marvel. CONDITION: There are significant areas of wears to the main field, as well as oxidation to the outside areas. There are areas of missing paint and surface rust to the exterior detail. Condition: (7.0). Dimensions: 24" x 6" x 34".
