AN ANTIQUE SWISS MUSIC BOX, MERMOD FRÈRES, SAINTE-CROIX, 1890s, ebonized lacquer with a mahogany and walnut marquetry inlaid rosewood top lifting to reveal a single steel cylinder, with Jagot's Patented Safety Check mechanism dated September 22, 1886, with repeating mechanism and patent plate engraved Sept. 22, 1885-Dec. 6, 1887, Mai 8, 1888-Dec. 16, 1890, with D.R.P. 33516. 453585. 43884. 55886 and 2222, SWITZERLAND, a paper label affixed to the top with cylinder measurement 13 3/8 inch, a chromolithograph with a scene of a bevy of cavorting infants details the names of twelve children's songs, some tunes include, Helton's Reel, Rock a Bye Baby, Emmet's Lullaby, Little Annie Rooney, New Paris Waltz, Razzle Dazzle and Dancing in the Barn, no. 55980. Condition
Apparent age, somewhat reluctant to start but does play, possibly needs oil or other minor routine maintenance, handle on crank does not fit properly and easily becomes two pieces, a slight odor, small scratches, surface wear, some dryness to veneer with early cracking/crazing, wear typical for age.
