A LOUIS XV STYLE ORMOLU MOUNTED MARQUETRY INLAID EXOTIC WOODS MARBLE TOP MEUBLE À HAUTEUR D'APPUI CABINET, FRENCH, 1860s-1900s, in the luxurious Napoleon III high contrast and profuse style utilizing exotic woods including kingwood, rosewood, tulipwood, stained woods, beech, and satinwood species, the serpentine slightly variegated white marble top with curved turret corners rests over a conforming wide frieze inlaid with an aesthetic style flower garland issued from double "C" scrolls ending with delicate bellflowers is flanked by rectangular floret bronze mounts above a gilt bronze cabochon and flower guilloche trim to a bombé crotched inlaid door centering an acanthus leaf lamb's tongue trimmed, ebonized ground reserve with a fringe ribbon-tied flower bouquet enclosed by four Japonesque shaped reserves with flower sprays including bellflower stalks within turret form, marquetry inlaid stiles capped by Bacchic grape bunch and leaf crowned corbel maidens wearing off the shoulder drapery upheld on volute scrolls suspending ring hung marquetry inlaid flower chains, over a stepped base with an egg-and-dart conforming trim on wide parquetry inlaid serpentine skirt raised on curved, splayed legs with neoclassical acanthus leaf rectangular ormolu mounts. Apparent veneer losses intermittently throughout in common areas noted at the interior, shelving, the hinge of the door, and base, old exposure to woodworm noting holes at one side of the frieze, marble has a dulled polish and small chips with accretion in porous areas, the case likely refinished with high gloss and has apparent slight over-sanding of veneer throughout, the interior with similar wear.
