Item Details
Description
Wizard of Oz Red Bugle Bead From Ruby Red Slippers in Limited Edition Lennox Treasure Box W/Framed Canvas Poster and COA - Known as the "Holy Grail" of Hollywood memorabilia, the iconic ruby red slippers worn by Judy Garland in the 1939 classic "The Wizard of Oz" are one of the most sought after by collectors. Offered here is the unique opportunity to own a single ruby red bugle bead that fell off the bow of one of the original slippers found in storage by MGM costumer Kent Warner in 1970. Just four pairs of slippers were discovered by Warner, including a practice pair. He kept one pair and some loose beads for himself, gave one pair to MGM for auction, sold a third pair to an investor and the practice slippers to Debbie Reynolds. One pair is now in the Smithsonian Museum and, most recently, a group of investors, headed by actor Leonardo Di Caprio, purchased a pair for $2 million and donated them to The Motion Picture Academy of Arts & Sciences. This bead was dyed red by MGM's Chief Costume Designer Gilbert Adrian and surrounded the beaded bow of one of the original slippers. It's former position is shown on the provided photo of the Smithsonian slippers. The rest of the slipper was covered in sequins. It was inherited by Warner's friend Michael Shaw and sold twenty years ago at auction. This unique artifact is beautifully displayed in a limited edition Lennox Wizard of Oz Red Slipper Treasure Box and is accompanied by a 10 x 12 inch canvas cloth display poster and certificate of authenticity for the bead and the Lennox box. This is a unique opportunity to own a piece of Hollywood magic.
