Elvis Presley Chair From Aug, 1959 German Lake Vacation
Item Details
Description
Elvis Presley 1959 Signed German Beer Garden Chair Used During August, 1959 Gederner See Lake "Secret Vacation" W/Elvis Off Duty CD and Photo Booklet - This wood and metal folding chair was sat in by Elvis Presley during a two-week Summer lake vacation while stationed in Germany. The month of August 1959 was seemingly busy for Elvis. On August 17th Elvis met with "G.I. Blues" producer Hal B. Wallis in Bad Nauheim, and at Paramount in Frankfurt. Wallis attempted to convince Elvis to do some shooting for the movie as he was interested in several locations near Frankfurt, however it was prohibited by Col. Parker. August 14th also marked the one year anniversary of his mother's unfortunate passing. After his meeting with Wallis, Elvis traveled to Gederner See lake where he stayed in the guesthouse "Finger" accompanied by Lamar Fike and another Army buddy, looking for some seclusion away from the media. During this trip he met and befriended a Frankfurt family, who often spent family vacations camping at the lake. Elvis spent time with the family, including 18 year-old Rosemarie Prass, with whom he enjoyed doing bike trips around the lake and short trips with a Messerschmidt bubble car. Elvis sat in this chair during that summer of August, 1959 in the beer garden located at the lake. Elvis eventually signed the chair before leaving the lake in early September. The chair would be acquired by Rosemarie Prass who kept it in her possession for many years, never offering the chair for public sale. It was then acquired by Prass' neighbor and friend, and comes with documentation and photographs surrounding the chair and Elvis 1959 "secret vacation". The lot also includes an "Elvis Off Duty with Private Presley" CD and photo booklet featuring images of Elvis and Rosemarie Prass. Please note: The signature on the chair has faded with age (please see photos).
