This Punu mask represent a idealized female ancestor. The white colour of the mask is asexual; white is a symbol of peace, gods, spirits of the dead and the hereafter. Therefore the predominant colour in the celebrations, funerals and commemorations. This is why the masks were worn at the funeral. They have also appeared in the magic rituals whose function was to expose the sorcerers.
