Description
Fine Mongolian applique Thangka. Probably mid-20th century made with a dozen different types of much older antique silk. Each color silk has a different pattern and weave. Striking example of its type. Very similar to 4491. These were available on the market in the 1990's, when I got this item. Now they are almost all new, made with new silk, as all of the old silk they used to use was all gone a decade ago. This one can use a good cleaning. Most dealers would sell this as 19th century, and while made for worship under Soviet rule, I believe this was made some time in the 20th century with earlier materials. Very hard to find now. Inner image measures 11.5 x 15 inches, outer frame is 26 x 19 inches.
