A pair of George III Sheffield plate sauce tureens, late 18th / early 19th century
Of Classical form, each bearing armorial crest and banner inscribed, “Consilio Et Animis,” apparently unmarked.
H: 5 ¼ in. W: 8 in. D: 3 ¾ in. (tureens)
Condition
lot 82: both exhibiting minor tarnish commensurate with age, also with some occasional base metal coming through in areas from repeated polishing; tureen one: mild occasional rubbing to body and details, one handle with a few sharp knicks / splits along edge (from slight surface splitting from use- one with extended split, which is mainly surface level), the gadrooned rim with some areas of denting and small losses, evidence of some solder repairs, including to base of handle where it meets body and to underside perimeter, the underside showing impression where pedestal support meets square base- probably slightly pressed downwards from use, interior well with some minor dings and scratches from use; tureen two: the handles both with some minor roughness along handles and rim from use and wear to surface, moderate rubbing to body including to armorial crest, gadrooned rim mostly in good condition but with some small pock marks of surface loss from use, interior well with very minor scratches or dings from use, underside appears to be flush and flat
