Art Deco Phoenician Dancer Inspired Bronze Statue - 19" x 14"
Influenced by the art of ancient Egypt, particularly the discovery of King Tutankhamen's tomb in the 1920s, Chiparus showcases his creativity and inspiration in this piece. The dancer, captured in a theatrical pose with extended arms, stands on her toes, legs close together and bent, displaying intricate detail, including finely sculpted stomach muscles. Handmade with a brown patina, the sculpture is signed by Chiparus and elegantly mounted on an art deco black marble base. Demetre Chiparus, a Romanian sculptor of the Art Deco era, lived and worked in Paris, where he studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. He passed away in 1947 and is buried in Bagneux cemetery, just south of Paris.
