Illustrazione originale realizzata da Mattotti per la sua celeberrima interpretazione dell‘Inferno dantesco edito per la prima volta nel volume "La Divina Commedia - Inferno" dalle edizioni Nuages nel 1999. L‘immagine più iconica dell‘intera opera, l‘incipit del primo canto dell‘Inferno e, per estensione, dell‘intero poema: "Nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita / mi ritrovai per una selva oscura, / ché la diritta via era smarrita". « Mattotti s’è tuffato nella Commedia per ciò che prima di tutto essa è: un libro di avventure.
