Francesco Primaticcio (1504–1570) was an Italian Mannerist painter, sculptor, and architect who spent a significant portion of his career working in France. Born in Bologna, Italy, Primaticcio played a key role in the development of the Fontainebleau School and contributed to the spread of Italian Mannerism in France.Primaticcio's early career in Italy included work in Bologna and Rome, where he absorbed influences from the Renaissance and the art of Michelangelo. In 1532, he traveled to France, initially commissioned to create frescoes for the Château d'Ancy-le-Franc.
