Description
A Greek silver gilt omphalus bowl with the decoration on the inside of the vessel. The decoration consists of two registers, the inner being radiating petals and the outside alternating palmettes and buds. Such vessels were often used to pour libations onto altars at religious festivals etc. Silver with mercury gilding. Greek 5th.c.B.C. 21.2 by 3.7 cm.PROVENANCE Private collection Austria, before 1990
