Description
A Large Pair of Bronze Figures, Mercury and Fortuna
The large bronze figures depict the classical roman figures of Mercury (32 1/2 inches) and Fortuna (34 1/2). Both figures are supported on cylindrical plinths which feature a continuous relief panel of cherubim. The figures balance on one foot atop a plinth, above the mask of Boreas, the personification in Greek mythology of the north wind.
The figures are based on bronze works by Giambologna (1529-1608).
