Description

DESCRIPTION: Victorian hair necklace engraved on gold pendant. Engraved "MKD to JWD". The hair belonged to Martha Krug Shoenberger Duncan, she gifted it to her husband John William Duncan. PROVENANCE: Martha Shoenberger Duncan was the daughter of Dr. Peter Shoenberger (1782-1854). Born in Manheim, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Peter became known as the "Iron King of Pennsylvania". He acquired vast tracts of land and built foundries and furnaces, naming Martha's Furnace after his daughter Martha. The necklace has remained in the family. MEASUREMENT: 1/4" wide x 14" long. CONDITION: Consistent with age. Some fraying.
