Description
1905 ENORMOUS Russo-Japanese WAR Asia Manchuria Korea Photographs Capt AT Mahan
A scarce printing of the pictorial history of “The Russo-Japanese War.” This work was collectively compiled and written by American war correspondent Richard Harding Davis (anonymously) and US Naval Captain Alfred Thayer Mahan. The photographs, taken exclusively for Colliers, depict scenes from both the Russian and Japanese sides of the conflict, including portraits of prominent government officials and military officers, hospital and Red Cross scenes, and court scenes. The book also includes historical and descriptive chapters, as well as maps and charts showing the character and topography of the two countries and the vastness of the battlefield. The correspondents faced many difficulties in gathering their materials, including censorship and limited access to the front lines. The photographs represent a significant investment of time, energy, and money on the part of Colliers, and many were published for the first time in this book.
