Item Details
Description
This exquisite covered candy dish, crafted from the finest Bohemian crystal and amber glass, is a testament to the storied tradition of Polish glassmaking. The centerpiece of this piece is a delicately etched image of a swan serenely gliding on still waters, surrounded by a flourish of floral motifs on the reverse. The swan, a revered symbol in Poland, is often associated with loyalty and grace due to its monogamous nature, often seen as a national emblem representing the beauty and resilience of the Polish landscape and spirit.

The dish features an intricate cut-to-clear design, showcasing the esteemed cameo technique. This method involves layering colored glass and meticulously cutting away the overlay to reveal the underlying hue, creating a stunning two-tone image. The swan, a creature that embodies transformation and artistic inspiration, is rendered in sharp, clear lines against the rich amber background, suggesting the reflection of a sunset on water and adding to the item's allure.

Proudly bearing its original 'Made in Poland' label, this candy dish is an authentic hand-cut creation. An artisan using a rotating wheel made of metal or stone has skillfully carved deep, sharp grooves into the glass, resulting in luxury patterns that catch and refract light in mesmerizing ways. This technique not only exemplifies the high level of craftsmanship but also ensures that each piece is unique.

Furthermore, this remarkable candy dish holds a place of honor within the archives of the Polish Arts Center, underscoring its cultural significance and the craftsmanship it represents. The piece is a product of the renowned "Julia" Factory, a luminary in the realm of glassmaking with a rich heritage dating back to 1842. The "Julia" Factory is not just known for its exquisite creations but also for its historic ties to the German Royal Family, having been a preferred source for fine crystal for aristocracy and nobility. This relationship between the "Julia" Factory and the German Royal Family is emblematic of the high esteem in which the factory’s glasswork has been held throughout history. It reflects a legacy of excellence and the factory’s role in serving the highest echelons of European society, further elevating the candy dish's provenance and the value for collectors and historians alike. The inclusion of this piece in the Polish Arts Center is a testament to its significance as a cultural artifact, embodying the rich tradition of Polish artistry and the enduring legacy of the "Julia" crystal factory's exquisite craftsmanship.

This covered candy dish is more than a mere container; it is a work of art that carries with it the heritage of Bohemian crystal work and the precision of Polish craftsmanship. Whether as a centerpiece to a well-appointed table, a treasure trove for confectioneries, or a display piece that captures the room's attention, it exudes luxury and sophistication.
