Place of Origin: Tokyo Size: (7x14.1/2in) Special Notes: In tiny font, listing the historical events pictured of samurai battles and historical scenes right margin. Description: The print portrays Shigenari Kimura, a loyal retainer of the Toyotomi clan, clashing with an enemy on horseback during the Battle of Imafuku. Shigenari met his demise while leading troops in the Siege of Osaka Castle. In the artwork, the two samurai extend their pole arms as they gallop past each other. The warrior on the right stares fiercely at his opponent, with his hair and shoulder plate flying in the wind. His adversary wears a fine suit of armor, with his battle helmet hanging over his back. The horse’s mane and tail swing in the air, creating a sense of motion. Tall tree trunks block part of the view, while the castle tower looms in dark silhouette against the night sky.
