Description
Ex. Parke-Bernet Chinese Coromandel 10-panel lacquered floor screen. Accompanied by a portion of the May 14th and 15th, 1971 Parke-Bernet Galleries, Inc. catalog describing the screen as, "Fine Chinese Coromandel Lacquer Ten-Fold Screen Mid-18th Century The front with a continuous scene depicting a landscape with pagodas, pavilions, a court of noblemen and women and musicians, all in tones of red, green, brown, and gold on a red-black ground within a border of scaly dragons; the reverse decorated in the center with Chinese calligraphy relating to the story of the front with a border of vases of flowers, animals, and implements. Formerly in the Collections of Viscount Furness and Lady Musker. A bill of sale from a London antique dealer attesting to the above will be given to the purchaser". 5/14/15 1971 Parke-Bernet Galleries Inc. receipt for, "267 10 Fold Screen 5500.00". Also included is a Mallett & Son (Antiques) Ltd. November 22nd 1968 stating this is a, "To a fine mid 18th century Chinese corcomandel ten-fold screen; the border with dragon motive and the centre with pagodas, landscapes and various domestic scenes with a court of noblemen and musicians, on a deep plum background. The reverse side with a border of stylised flower pots, animals, vases, etc. the centre with Chinese calligraphy. Circa 1740. Former in the collections of Viscount Furness and Lady Musker". Accompanied by an Asian Art Gallery November 30th, 1993 receipt for, "Chinese 10-Panel Coromandel Screen Restored Front and Back $9,959". From a Greenwich, CT estate. Dimensions: individual panels measure approx. 18.25" w x 9' 2.5" high.
Condition
Good, with light surface scratches and minor dings/dents. With general wear including but not limited to scratches, abrasions, cracks, and minor losses. Possible restorations present. Please examine the provided photos to thoroughly evaluate each piece.
