Item Details
Description
We are proud to present a rare early colored lithograph titled "Delia In Country," housed in its original oval frame. This piece is a hand-colored version of the esteemed George Morland’s original stipple etching from 1788. A work of serene beauty, it captures the quiet repose of a young lady immersed in her reading beneath the gentle shade of a tree.

The lithograph itself exudes a sense of timeless elegance. Delia, the subject, is depicted in a pastoral setting, her form rendered in profile against the lush backdrop of the countryside. Dressed in period attire complete with a wide-brimmed hat and a delicate lace shawl, her pose is one of relaxed contemplation. The book she holds in her left hand, her right hand resting lightly on her knee, serves as a testament to the leisure and literary interests afforded to the genteel classes of the era.

This particular image was published by John Raphael Smith, a notable figure in the world of 18th-century printmaking, and its significance is acknowledged by its inclusion in the collection of the British Museum. The presence of this lithograph in such a prestigious institution speaks to its artistic and historical value.

The lithograph's charm is further enhanced by its presentation within an oval frame, which suggests it has been treasured as a keepsake over the centuries. The frame itself, likely contemporaneous with the lithograph, adds an additional layer of authenticity and aesthetic appeal, making it a collector’s delight.

"Delia In Country" is not merely a decorative piece; it is a portal to the Georgian era, offering a glimpse into the idyllic rural life romanticized by the society of the time. It is an exceptional opportunity for collectors of antique prints and admirers of George Morland’s work to own a piece that beautifully encapsulates the tranquility and grace of 18th-century English art.p> size: 17 x 12.75 matte, 23.5 x 19.5 outside frame
