LODGE OLIVER: (1851-1940) British physicist involved in the development of radio. A.L.S., Oliver Lodge, two pages (written to the first and final sides of the bifolium), 8vo, Edmund Street, Birmingham, 20th December 1906, to Francesco Grassi, on the printed stationery of The University. Lodge thanks his correspondent for their 'most interesting volume' which has just arrived, continuing to remark 'I can only read Italian with some difficulty and slowness, but the book is so fully illustrated that it must appeal to everybody, and in its historical portions I am sure I shall find much to interest me' and concluding 'It has clearly involved a good deal lof labour and research, and I value the presentation copy'. Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Lodge. VG
