Description

Wayne Ensrud (American, b. 1934). "Upwind" lithograph in colors, ca. 1980s. Signed and dated "W /Ensrud" in pencil on lower right, numbered 140/300 in pencil on lower left. A stunning marinescape with countless sailboats bobbing on the glistening sea as sunlight dapples over the blue waves and white sails by Wayne Ensrud, the first American painter invited to exhibit at the French Institute Gallery in New York City, where he showed several watercolors of the Bordeaux chateaux and vineyards. Size: 22" L x 30" W (55.9 cm x 76.2 cm)

Wayne Ensrud received his BFA from the Minneapolis Institute of Art where he met Oskar Kokoschka, who happened to be an artist-in-residence at the Institute and profoundly influenced Ensrud's work. Kokoshka would continue to be Ensrud's friend and mentor. In addition to being an accomplished artist, Ensrud was also art director and animator for ABC, CBS, and IRM IBM. He taught film animation at Pratt Institute for four years, and was Art Director at the University of California at Berkeley for the Department of Motion Pictures and Television as well as Executive Art Director of Channel 13-TV, New York City. Interestingly, Ensrud had the distinct honor of drawing the master cellist Pablo Casals when he conducted his Master Class Series at U.C. Berkeley. Ensrud was also asked to asked to sketch world famous violinists ltzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman during rehearsals.
